With some fans still screaming for more, it would seem as though Huddersfield Town’s transfer business is finished, but then again this is football, so never say never.
I would think that David Wagner and his staff, along with the blue and white army can be extremely happy with the acquisitions made this summer. He now has a squad at his disposal, and one that is unrecognisable in comparison to that that finished the season last term.
The competition for a shirt is bigger than ever, fans and the players themselves are desperate to see who has claimed a peg.
Wagner has at least 2 players per position and providing the entire squad is fit and available for selection, what is his strongest / best starting XI for the season opener?
Mine is pictured above and detailed below:
GK – Danny Ward. A welsh international, a Liverpool loanee and our most senior goalkeeper (excluding Murphy) an obvious choice.
RB – Tommy Smith. An ever present at RB last year and a player continually improving. With bags of pace and a willing run, he fits the modern full-back profile.
CB – Christopher Schindler. A ball playing central defender, who comes with experience and great leadership skills.
CB – Mark Hudson (c). He won’t be everyone’s first choice, but his experience of the Championship is not matched by any other defender and will prove vital.
LB – Chris Loewe. A great footballer, solid in defence, what he lacks in build he makes up with in tenacity and intelligence. Plus it’s not going to be Davidson is it???
CM – Jonathan Hogg. In the words of DW “a true terrier” in there to break up play and do the dirty work. Loads of energy and full of running.
CM – Aaroon Mooy. An assist maker who can dictate the play. From what I’ve seen probably our most composed footballer. In dangerous areas this could be worth its wait in goals.
RW – Sean Scannell. Didn’t live up to expectations last term, but is a true winger with real quality. In recent interviews he seems to have regained his love and hunger for the game.
LW – Rajiv Van La Parra. An exciting winger with pace to burn. A “confidence” player. If he hits the ground running we can expect big things from him this year.
AM – Jack Payne. His quick style of play means he fits perfectly into the system. He posses huge energy levels and seemingly never stops running. Hopefully he can chip in with a few goals this term too.
ST – Nahki Wells. A player reinvigorated by David Wagner’s footballing identity. Wells’ clever movement both in and out of the box means he is a real handful for defenders. He clearly knows where the net is, notching 17 league goals.
